  • Delhi to become barrier free by 2008
    Delhi will be a disabled-friendly and barrier-free city by the year 2008, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation Chairperson Sonia Gandhi announced while releasing a document ‘Accessible Delhi – a road map 2003-2008’ on the birth anniversary of the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on August 20, 2003.

    National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) has bagged the Samsung DigitAll Hope Award, from global semiconductor leader Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., to provide scholarships and placement facilities to brilliant disabled students.

  • 43 students get scholarship for higher education
    Forty three young, talented and aspiring disabled students across the country were awarded scholarships under National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People’s (NCPEDP) ‘Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Scheme for Students with Disabilities’, to pursue higher education.

    Three per cent quota will be made available to disabled students pursuing medicine in Delhi University.

    If you are a disabled person, and wish to own a vehicle, then there is good news for you. To own a car, you will have to pay only eight percent excise duty now.

    As many as seven key national heritage monuments – Taj Mahal, Sarnath, Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, Qutab Minar, Jantar Mantar and Safdarjung’s Tomb – will be made accessible to disabled tourists, said Gauri Chatterji, Director General of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
