Delhi University makes disabled students undergo medical examination
DNIS News Network -- Physically challenged students have a new hurdle to climb in their attempt to gain admission to Delhi University.
From this year, DU will require all potential students with any form of physical difficulty to be examined by its own medical board of six University doctors. It says the measure is needed to prevent students providing false documents or trying to gain entry under the 3% reservation for disabled students when they may only have a temporary illness.
Previously, students at DU only needed to provide a certificate of disability with the extent of handicap (minimum 40%) issued by a duly notified medical board of a district or government hospital. This requirement will remain in place in addition to the new examination.
Hema Raghavan, Dean of Students, said the new measure would allow the university to "do a double-check".
