Pulse Polio campaign

DNIS News Network -- Thousands of children up to the age of five were administered polio drops under the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme. The three-day sub-national round of the Pulse Polio immunisation campaign began on May 23.

In Haryana, about 26 lakh children were administered polio drops on the first day. A spokesman for the Haryana Health Department said more than 70% of the 38 lakh targeted children had been administered the drops. The department had set up 15,000 booths in all districts of the state. Those children who couldn't be reached through booths would be administered the drops on the second day and on the third day the teams would visit the households.

In Delhi, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, formally launched the campaign by administering the drops. Around 7,500 booths, 350 mobile teams and six transit-point teams were active on the first day of the campaign in Delhi.
