N.I.D. to introduce course on Universal Design

D.N.I.S. News Network, India: National Institute of Design (N.I.D.), Ahmedabad is planning to introduce a two year course on Universal Design which will look at creating designs to benefit all sections of society.

“The focus will be to understand the problems faced by disabled people and elderly and to come up with designs that make a difference,” said Pradyumna Vyas, Director, N.I.D. The course on Universal Design is being planned for the campus at Bangalore. Vijaya Deshmukh, Registrar, N.I.D. said, “The two year P.G. course should be functional in two years time. We are in the planning process right now.”

Universal Design as a concept is enshrined in the XIth Five Year Plan. The Plan mandates the setting up of a National Institute of Universal Design. This is yet to be realized.
