Government schools discriminate against disabled children

D.N.I.S. News Network, India: Even though we have an Act that enjoins children to enjoy free and compulsory education, yet this is not quite the case. There are as many as 2 crore children with disabilities in the country and less than one percent of them are attending school. Even those who have the privilege to attend schools face problems like absence of special teachers, aids and appliances and study material.

In a letter to Chairperson, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Social Jurist, a civil rights group highlighted the case of 193 children with disabilities who were denied admission to Government run schools. Some of them are run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
