C.B.S.E. to ensure no disabled child is denied admission

D.N.I.S. News Network, India: This is something that parents of disabled children had been waiting for a very long time! Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E.) has firmly advised all schools falling under its ambit to not deny admission to disabled children or face disaffiliation.

C.B.S.E. has advised schools to make sure that no child with special needs is denied admission into mainstream schools. It has also advised that support must be provided through special educators and devices to assist children with disabilities. Infrastructure must be made disabled friendly and training should be given to teachers in inclusive education at elementary and secondary levels.

The Board has categorically stated, “Any school which fails to provide attention to a child with special needs or makes a pretext of denying admission to any category of a disabled child will be liable to stringent action, even to the extent of disaffiliation.”

In the past, many schools were found to have not been following this directive. Vineet Joshi, C.B.S.E. Chairman has said, “From now on, we expect that schools do not turn down such requests.”
