Insult on physical disability could be a punishable offence

D.N.I.S. News Network, India: The Maharashtra State Legal Commission has submitted a report to Chief Minister Ashok Chavan emphasizing that any insult on physical disability should be considered as a punishable offence.

The report was submitted by D.N. Chowdry, Chairman of the Commission. The State government in April 2009 had asked the Commission to make recommendations regarding the Disability Act and accordingly a 26-page report was submitted. The report recommends that insulting a disabled person on his or her disability or speaking to them with disrespect should be a punishable offence.
