DNIS News Network - Still working on providing aid to tsunami victims, Chennai is now directing its funds towards providing psychosocial relief to families in Tamil Nadu.
The Social Welfare Department in Chennai is aiming to provide psychosocial support to tsunami affected families in 13 districts in Tamil Nadu. The Rs 32 lakh-project has been funded by the United Nations Development Programme and is targeting families adversely affected by the tsunami to help them overcome the trauma associated with the disaster.
Over 3,000 social and community-level workers from government and non-government organisations are being trained by a group of psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, and social workers and counsellors from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences. Each trained worker will be catering to the needs of 20 families.
