DNIS News Network - In response to protests by D.R.G., the government has begun a fresh process for recruiting a Chairperson for the National Trust.
The Government of India’s Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is holding a fresh recruitment process for the post of Chairperson for the National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation, and Multiple Disabilities.
The Ministry has invited applications for the said post through an advertisement issued in The Hindustan Times on 19 April, 2005. Listed below are the qualifications and conditions required of candidates interested in applying, as per the advertisement:
Applications from eligible candidates together with supporting documents may be sent to Sarvesh Rai, Deputy Secretary (D.D.), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Shastri Bhavan, New Delhi 110 001, within 45 days from publication of the advertisement, that is, on or before 2 June, 2005. Persons working in Central/State Govt. P.S.U.s, etc, may send their applications through proper channel. However, one advance copy of their application may be sent to the Deputy Secretary (D.D.), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Shastri Bhavan, New Delhi 110 001.
This step has been taken in response to the protest by the Disabled Rights Group (D.R.G.) against reappointment of Aloka Guha as Chairperson of the National Trust. The Cabinet Committee on Appointments (A.C.C.) noted that there was no “valid reason” as to why she should be given a second term. The Committee then advised the Ministry of Social Justice to do a “proper search” and to resubmit a list of names by the end of June.
