N.A.S.S.C.O.M. to set up accessibility forum

D.N.I.S. News Network, India: There is good news for the Indian disability sector. After much rallying, N.A.S.S.C.O.M. has decided to set up a forum on accessibility. Currently, they are in the process of identifying subject matter specialists who would be able to provide valuable guidance to the accessibility policies and processes that can be adopted by its members.

Javed Abidi, Honorary Director, N.C.P.E.D.P., has been in touch with representatives of N.A.S.S.C.O.M. on this issue and has welcomed the move.

“This is a major breakthrough for the Indian disability sector. The I.T. industry needs to be more in tune with the needs of people with disabilities. In fact, we have been demanding that websites adopt W.C.A.G. 2.0 guidelines for quite some time now,” he said.

A meeting is expected to be convened some time soon, once the members of the forum are finalized.

N.A.S.S.C.O.M. is a consortium that serves as an interface between the Indian software industry and the government. It sets the tone for I.T. policies.
